Thanks Russ.

“It is with heavy heart I must inform you that Jim Paulson has passed away. He was on location when he collapsed on Tuesday, February 13th.
“For over forty years Jim Paulson has enjoyed a career as one of Canada’s top broadcasters. He was best known for his shows on AM 740 radio and his promotional work for the station at major music events throughout southern Ontario.
“A personable, dynamic freelance Host/Commentator he has worked with or interviewed them all from Frank Sinatra to Tony Bennett, Sophia Loren, Eddie Fisher, Raquel Welch, Lou Rawls, Charlton Heston, etc. in the entertainment world to Paul Newman, Jackie Stewart, Mario Andretti, Richard Petty etc. in his other world of motor sports which Jim has presented for about as long as he has been in broadcasting.
“Whether asked to M.C. a Molson Indy or an Oakville Jazz Festival he is totally at ease and does it with a fine sense of humour as well… no thoughts of retiring.
“Jim was respected by Artists and Audiences that he has worked for and with over the years. Jim originates from Edmonton, Alberta and spent time on CJCA, Edmonton and CKRC, Winnipeg. When Jim moved to Toronto, he joined CKEY and then worked on CHFI, CING FM-108 and finally CHWO - AM 740.”

“I don’t think anyone was as close to Jim in the 80s as I was. I was his producer and worked across the glass with this amazing western Canadian Broadcast icon. He didn’t need prep he just turned on the microphone and away he went.
“Jim had one of the best sets of pipes in North America. I loved him dearly and we spoke many times in recent years. The last time I talked to him I told him to slow down. I think Jim knew it was time and he went out with his boots on.
“Two funny times I would like to share. One was his dreadful coffee. Jim’s own mixture from the FM-108 Lunch room. He would torment me with a cup twice a day. And then there was the time a certain ear wig at FM-108 decided to wander up the telephone he was talking on at that moment. Memories that don’t mean a damn thing to anyone else certainly lay heavy on my mind today.
“I have nothing but fond memories of my very old friend. Rest in Peace. I think they just filled the midday slot in Heaven.
“Love you Jim RIP”

“A true gentleman. There is nobody in or out of the business without something positive to say about Jim. I just spoke with Jim a week ago. I was hoping to use his talents down the road, and now this.”I worked with Jim two, maybe three years and feel I’ve known him my whole life. The industry and audience has lost one of the best. There will never be a replacement for Jim Paulson.”

Toronto Star
Jim Paulson, chief announcer at Mosport International Raceway during the 1970s and ’80s and the voice of the early Molson Indy races in Toronto and Vancouver, has died.
Paulson, a veteran of Canadian radio whose smooth, mellow baritone voice could be heard on AM740, was 67.
During his motorsport career, Paulson called Formula One, Can-Am, Player’s-GM and Indy races.
Myles Brandt, president and general manager of Mosport, said he’d been looking forward to Paulson returning to the circuit to announce on the June 22 weekend when 40 Years of F1 Racing in Canada will be celebrated.
“His death is so sad,” he said.

PAULSON, Jim ‘’The Voice'’
JIM ‘’THE VOICE'’ PAULSON January 10, 1940 - February 13, 2007. It is
with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of one of the most
recognizable voices and broadcasting personalities whose voice was
silenced on Tuesday, February 13, 2007. Predeceased by his first son Brad, his
first wife Lynn, and second wife Kitty. Loving dad to Todd and his fiancée
Charlotte Deutsch of Gothenburg, Sweden. Also lovingly remembered by
his special friend Patricia MacKellar. Caring grandpa Jim to Devin and
Ashley.
Remembered by his brother Roger (Sheila) and sister Sharon (Cliff Betz)
and their families, as well as his extended families of Toby, Joyce,
Melanie and Sam, Chris, Mary and Fiona Meredith; and Georgia, Peter, Brendan and
Martha Kovalik. Brother-in-law to Tom, Esther and Jack. Special thanks to all
his co-workers at AM740 and Kingsmere On The Park. A private service will
be taking place, with a public celebration of Jim’s life, at a later date.
Details to be announced through AM740. Funeral arrangements entrusted
to The Simple Alternative Funeral Centre, Toronto (416-441-1580). In lieu of
flowers, in memoriam donations to The Canadian Cardiac Rehabilitation
Foundation would be appreciated.
Also remember the following tributes to Jim on AM 740:
**February 17th - Saturday Sinatra 6:00pm to 7:00pm
‘Saturday Sinatra’ will be hosted this week by Brian Peroff in tribute
to our friend, Jim Paulson.
**Sunday, February 18th at 8:45 PM (ET) during Big Band Sunday Night.
“They’re Playing Our Song” featuring the Toronto All-Star Big Band.
Zygmunt Jedrzejek has put together a very different version of this program,
which will feature the young talent performing a few songs in Jim’s memory.
Also, one of the band member’s alumni wrote a special song this week
after hearing of Jim’s passing. Ernesto Cervini called it ‘The Voice’, and I
believe it was recorded in New York with Ernesto’s friend Michael Cabe
on piano.
Please don’t miss them.
